I got a note from a reviews editor complaining about some weird characters in one of our books and did a little digging around. Sure enough, the program I've been using to create Palm DOC/eReader formatted versions of my books has problems with smart quotes. I went over to eReader.com and bought the latest eReader Studio program and will be spending the next few days re-formating and generally trying to make the books look the way they were already supposed to. It seems that you can never really get ahead. Oh, well.
I had a big review day posting reviews for FORWARD, SHAMBLE by Joshua Calkins-Treworgy (here: www.booksforabuck.com/sfpages/sf_09/forward_shamble.html), CRUEL INTENT by J. A. Jance (www.booksforabuck.com/mystery/mys_09/cruel_intent.html), and THE SHADOW OF SAGANAMI by David Weber (www.booksforabuck.com/sfpages/sf_09/shadow_of_saganami.html). All had their moments. I really like Jance's writing but the Ali Reynolds stories aren't my favorites. I don't like Weber's style much (he desperately needs an editor to trim a couple of hundred pages of bloat) but he writes space battles better than anyone. And the Calkins-Treworgy story was simply a lot of fun.
Less fun was the limited progress I made in my rewriting. I struggled a few pages forward--this was supposed to be a big day what with my bridge partner cancelling on me.
Karen is home and I took her to her favorite place (the Beckley BrewHouse) for the Pizza Margarita she loves. I'm glad she's home.
