rob: Good point, Amelia. The hours people spend reading are the greatest cost involved. Given that we sometimes get fooled and buy books we don't enjoy, it's nice to have a low cover price, too--if not for the successes, at least for the rejects.Rob
amelia: You may buy books because they are cheep (so you can fill a bookcase) or because you may or may not want it. But I hope people do not read books because they are cheap. time is to valuable

Back home

I spent the past several days in Austin, TX at a bridge tournament. It was a sectional tournament (which is the lowest level of tournaments) but it was also the Division playoffs for the North American Pairs championship. I was in the group that made it possible for others to advance, if you catch my drift. We decided to play Swiss teams today since we were out of the pairs and started hot--maxing points for the first two matches, which basically meant we got to play with the experts after that. Ouch. 4 straight losses.

I'm happy to be home and looking forward to getting back to work on my writing.
