With the arrival of Easter, it's officially spring. We had thunderstorms all night last night, and the sky was gray, but Karen and I decided to brave the elements. I suggested going for a drive in the country and we compromised on going to a nature trail and looking at birds. We didn't see much, but we heard a great deal. I think if we'd gone earlier, we would have had more luck. Birds seem to be into their early afternoon siestas.
Because of the rain, the trail we walked was REALLY muddy. We worried that our feet would get so weighed down, we wouldn't be able to walk. That didn't happen (or else I wouldn't be blogging) but we did leave some intriguing tracks behind. I suspect if amateur trackers come upon the prints, we'll be the latest evidence for bigfoot.
The park where we walked is quite near a highway (not a freeway) and we couldn't seem to get away from the auto noises. It's amazing how loud the highway is. It definitely made me more aware of man's effect on the rest of nature.
In honor of Easter, I'm going to make my own book, VEIL OF THE GODDESS, the www.BooksForABuck.com book of the day. When the True Cross (see the connection?) is found under a bombed Mosque in Iraq, a mysterious organization throws all of its resources (and its control of the US government) into capturing it. National Guardsman Ivy Newland and Army Capt. Zach Herrera find themselves running from their fellow soldiers, from mysterious spies, and from things beyond human. It's only $3.99--check it out here: www.booksforabuck.com/mystery/mys_06/veil_goddess.html. (Available in HTML, Adobe Acrobat PDF, eReader, Mobipocket, Microsoft Reader, Sony Reader and ePub formats). Here's the cover (cover design by Kat Baldwin):
