Some of you may have noticed I missed a couple of blog entries over the weekend. All of a sudden, I got social.
On Friday night, I went to a bridge party hosted by a couple I've been working with for a while. It's great to see them continue to improve in their games. My regular partner, Therese, also came and we had a chance to play together for the first time in a while. What a disaster. We just weren't in synch at all, and definitely didn't show up as the 'pros' in a group of people who've mostly only been playing bridge for a year or so. Oh, well--maybe we got that out of our system.
I ended up getting home after midnight and in no mood to blog.
Yesterday was even more busy. The Dallas Area Romance Authors had their monthly meeting. An interesting discussion of what agents can do for you and what to look for in an agent. My own experiences with agents haven't been exceptional--both agents I worked with were excited and ready to go at the start but when my projects didn't immediately sell, their interest waned. I can understand, really, but I'd like to find an agent who had faith in me and my writing--even if it takes a while to find the right outlet. Consider JK Rowling who was pretty much rejected by everyone (and then made a mint for herself and her agent with the Harry Potter stories). After DARA, Karen and I went to a crawfish boil. My tae kwon do instructor, Alton Thibodeaux, is a cajun and he definitely went full cajun with overalls and a funky hat. I ate way too much and by the time I got home, didn't feel like blogging again.
Today, though, I'm back to work. I finished (finally) edits for DEADLY STING by Michael Paulson and sent them off to him. I've got a couple more projects I hope to get done this evening, and I'd even like to get some reading done. I got an ARC of Brandon Sanderson's WARBREAKER and I'm trying to finish THE TELEFAX TRILOGY by Tony Seger.
In honor of finishing edits on the latest Deacon Bishop novel, I'm going to make the first in the series, DEAD ON, the www.BooksForABuck.com book of the day. Deacon Bishop is in south Texas just in time to find his client's murdered body. When the Portello clan shows up and a corrupt cop insists that Bishop leave town, Bishop's interest is piqued. Hardboiled detective action at its best. Only $3.99. Learn more, read the free excerpt or buy the book here (available in HTML, Adobe Acrobat PDF, eReader, Microsoft Reader, Mobipocket, Sony Reader and ePub formats). Here's the cover (cover design by Karen Leabo):
