I spent most of the week doing edits for Karen's romantic thriller about a sniper, and finished it this evening. I'll start working on edits for MOTOR CITY SHAMBLER by Joshua Calkins-Treworgy tomorrow. Karen's book is excellent--and I hope my editorial suggestions will make it even better.
I was starving when dinner time rolled around, so Karen and I decided to walk out to a neighborhood taquiria we'd heard about. We missed a turn, though, and ended up in a Hawaiian place. I confess I'm not a huge fan of Hawaiian food in general, but this was nice, fun and within walking distance. Again, living in an urban environment has paid off for us. I understand the appeal of the suburbs, but moving away from the city has real costs as well.
I finished reading THE RIGHT MISTAKE by Walter Mosley--should get a review up this weekend. Now I'm reading THEY FALL HARD by Alistair Boyle. (I'm also reading THE BUSH TRAGEDY but don't look for a BFAB review--it isn't genre fiction).
I got a nice note from author Vanessa Knipe today telling me she's going to send me a sequel to WITCH-FINDER, also set in the College of St. Van Helsing. I'm excited about this--I thought WITCH-FINDER was completely charming. So, I'll make WITCH-FINDER the www.BooksForABuck.com book of the day. The militant arm of the Church of England battles demons and elementals--and tries to raise a new batch of students to carry on the fight. WITCH-FINDER is only $3.99. Learn more, read the free excerpt or buy the book here: www.booksforabuck.com/sfpages/sf_08/witch-finder.html. (Available in HTML, Adobe Acrobat PDF, eReader, Mobipocket, ePub, Sony Reader and Microsoft Reader formats). Here's the cover (cover design by Karen Leabo):
