Can you believe the way this year is going? It's alreay fall. I've only written one book. I've got to get cracking. I did get back to work today--writing ten pages in my current WIP. After that, I did some editing of Deadly Trade by Michael Paulson, sent a contract to a new author, and packaged up the second proof copy of FINDING FUNBOY by Matt Golec. It felt like I was in continual motion but when I realized that I still haven't judged the Golden Pen entries I promised, I realized my trip to Hawaii was not without consequences. I'm going to have to work extra-hard to catch up, even though I did get a fair amount of work done in between meetings and a long drive around the island of Hawaii.
To celebrate Fall, Karen and I walked to a little taco stand and had dinner outside. Al Fresco. Fun
Oh, I also sent a copy of NanoCorporate to my son. He's going to fire it up on his Creative Zen, an MP3/Video player. He did send me the analysis of how to get eBooks on the Zen--and I'll post it later this week.
The other day, I filled out a survey with Fictionwise and they sent me a coupon for 15% off on my next purchase. If anyone would like a nice little discount on a Fictionwise purchase, let me know and I'll send you the coupon. (I'll send it to the first person who requests it--send requests to me at publisher (at sign) booksforabuck.com.
While on my consulting project, I attended several meetings of the mesh networking subgroup. I've been a true believer in mesh networking, meaning that nodes create a wireless mesh rather than relying on some sort of backbone, since the late 1980s when I wrote a (much ignored) paper on that topic. How cool it would be if we didn't have to pay AT&T--instead we could just turn on our PC and all of a sudden we'd be talking--and everyone else's communication got better rather than worse because there is another node to send communications through. I'm not sure what the consequences are for eBooks. It is interesting that the $100 laptop project includes a mesh networking system inside their laptops.
I'm going to make my most techno-thriller book to date, PRIVATE LIES by Amy Eastlake, the www.BooksForABuck.com book of the day. In this absolutely FREE eBook, a woman with a secret and an FBI agent are forced together to confront a group of cyberterrorists who threaten to spill the American economy into depression. Available in HTML, Adobe Acrobat PDF, Palm Reader, Palm DOC, and Microsoft Reader formats. Check it out here: www.booksforabuck.com/rompages/private_lies.html. Here's the cover (cover design by Jane Graves):
