The day didn't get completely away. Recognizing that I missed writing yesterday and that, if my bridge game happens on Friday, it'll be hard to get my pages written then, I sat down and wrote 13 pages today. Pretty good, even if there was a chapter break in there to help out. You'll be happy to hear that Sophia was rescued--sort of. Her rescuer was the badguy, Watson. She's not quite sure he's the badguy yet, but she's suspicious. Then again, she's not quite sure the hero is a goodguy.
Karen and I walked to the post office, picked up our mail (what happens to our mail on the weeks we're out of town is always a mystery), and enjoyed a brief downpour. Karen is very interested to hear that there's currently a tropical storm named after her. It's near-hurricane force, but far from land. Sailors watch out.
I posted a review of the interesting and well written PHOENIX UNRISEN by Kathleen Nance. I thought too many coincidences, many unnecessary to the story, pulled me out of it which was too bad because Nance certainly can write. Now I'm reading TIME'S CHILD. I had big plans about doing my contest judging. Didn't happen. Oh, one thing that did happen. If anyone noticed, I can't spell. It's always been a handicapp for me and I think spell checking is one of the great blessings of technology (unfortunately the blog entry mechanism doesn't support it). At any rate, our book, CARPATHIAN SHADOWS had a beautiful cover with CARPATIAN SHADOWS clearly marked. Uh, where's the 'H'? It's fixed now, thanks to Karen's late night artwork. Thanks, sweetie.
Thanks for the comments on yesterday's question--are books getting shorter and is this a good thing. My personal take, they're getting shorter because editors don't have enough time to read/edit longer ones so they're rejecting them. Bet you'll never get an editor to agree this is the case, though.
In honor of getting the cover fixed, I'm going to make CARPATHIAN SHADOWS (Vol. 1) the www.BooksForABuck.com book of the day. We're still in our introductory period, which means you can buy the entire eBook for only a buck. I know some of you are not from the US. If so, a US dollar has just gotten cheaper for you--which makes this book a steal. The past and present collide in the Carpathian mountains--in Transylvania. Four connected stories of a Carpathian castle and a group of tourists caught up in its magic. Available in HTML, Adobe Acrobat PDF, Mobipocket, Palm DOC, and Microsoft Reader formats. Learn more, read the foreward, or buy the entire eBook here: www.booksforabuck.com/sfpages/sf_07/carpatian_shadows_vol1.html. Here's the (corrected) cover:
