My friend Tom has an 80 inch projection TV and sometimes invites friends over to watch games. Tonight was the first night of the Dallas Cowboys football season so Karen and I headed up to Plano to watch the game. It was very exciting, with lots of scoring and almost no defense. A couple of ex-Nortel buddies joined us, so it was a bit of a reunion.
In yeserday's mail, I got the new battery I ordered for our iPaq 3700 (a PDA). I installed it and charged it, then tried to figure out how to load stuff on it. Which wasn't as easy as I'd hoped. For whatever reason, my new laptop refused to synch with it. However, Karen synched it with her desktop PC and I loaded a book (MOUNTAINS OF MORNING by Lois McMaster Bujold. I've been a fan of Bujold for decades and actually have read this book before, but it worked as a test. The font size (in Microsoft Reader) is a bit small but I can read it pretty well. So it looks like I have another eBook reader. I told Karen I'd give it back to her if she wants it--she got frustrated when the old battery died. I'm certainly willing to do this--I want her reading eBooks too.
A bit of a lazy morning--got started late, played a bit of Age of Empires, then went out and mowed the lawn (and sweated--it is really muggy here). This afternoon, I posted a review of Romance Writers of America RITA winner BLACKOUT by Annie Solomon (my review is at www.booksforabuck.com/rompages/rom_2007/blackout.html) and got about 85 pages of editing done on When it's Time to Call it a Day by Anthony Perham. I'm still reading THE YIDDISH POLICEMAN'S UNION.
I'm going to make TOUGH LOVE by Amy Eastlake the www.BooksForABuck.com book of the day. A reporter visiting a 'scare them straight' program meets a convict who just might be her ticket to a pulitzer prize. The only problem--he thinks she's going to get him killed. You can buy this entire eNovel for only $1--incredible. Here's the URL to learn more, read an excerpt, or buy the eBook: www.booksforabuck.com/rompages/tough_love.html. (Available in HTML, Adobe PDF, Palm Reader (PRC), and Microsoft Reader formats. Here's the cover (cover design by Jane Graves):
