David Rothman, who runs the Teleread.org website where I am a frequent commentor (and a couple of time guest blogger) now has a blog on Publisher's Weekly. I've given him my opinion on why some of the big publishers are reluctant to push ePublishing too hard--that they're afraid of offending the distributors like Wal-Mart and Barnes and Noble--and he has written his take (a bit different). Anyway, here's his latest Publisher's Weekly column. Scroll down a bit and you'll see what he says about me: http://publishersweekly.com/blog/760000476.html#140015614 (just in case you can't find it, he says, "Wal-Mart won't necessarily sell books on dangerous topics, a point just made by Rob Preece of Books for a Buck, one of the more interesting of the small e-book publishers. E, yes, can be a great Wal-Mart bypass." I've thought we were a particularly interesting ePublisher but it's nice to have confirmation. (Thanks for the plug, David).
Today I rode the train up to Richardson to play bridge. The bridge wasn't pretty. We came in second to last although our last round brought our percentage from 42% to 44% (still bad but not embarassing considering we're playing with some good players). But we had fun and I, as I've told myself I woud, spent my time on the train writing. Incredibly, I managed to get nine pages written. That's pretty good, meaning I didn't really fall too far behind this week. I'm up to page 287 in the book. I've got to keep going so I can get this book ready for the Romance Writers of America Golden Heart contest. This year, I intend to win.
I posted my review of FOLLOWING MY TOES. It was a pretty good book except I didn't like the first person protagonist. That makes it tough. Here's my review: www.booksforabuck.com/rompages/rom_2007/following_my_toes.html. Now I'm reading THE PENGUIN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH.
Karen and I walked to the library--returned one, checked out 4 for a net loss of 3.
I'm going to make THE CEO's S.O.S. by Robyn Anders the www.BooksForABuck.com book of the day. An out-of-control dog is driving handsome CEO Tyler Atwood to distraction--so much that when he sees how well the dog behaves with sexy pet psychologist Courtney Zane, he decides he needs to bring her on board. True she claims to have work to do, but Tyler is the kind of guy who makes things happen. Of course, falling for the pet psychologist is a problem--after one of the things he makes happen includes costing her her office. A sexy and fun romantic comedy--and it's only $2.99. Learn more, read the excerpt, or buy the entire eNovel here: www.booksforabuck.com/rompages/rom_2005/ceo_sos.html. (Available in HTML, Adobe Acrobat PDF, Palm DOC, Palm Reader/eReader, and Microsoft Reader formats). Here's the cover (cover design by Karen Leabo):
