Today I published Deadly Trade (or Dead Men Don't Make Housecalls) by Michael Paulson. This book has been a long time coming--partly because of my delays and partly because of some major rewriting that Michael made as a result of some suggestions I gave him (I think the story is stronger, Michael. Hope you think the same). Anyway, I'm real happy with the result. BooksForABuck.com is one of the few publishers actively seeking hardboiled mystery and Michael Paulson is definitely at the top of that game (another of our authors, Ed Lynskey, is also a top hardboiled mystery author although Ed has published his last couple of books with larger publishers). As with all of our books, Deadly Trade will be available for the incredible price of $1 for its first month--when the price rises to the still affordable $3.99.
Putting together eBooks always seems to take longer than it should--partly because I always seem to make mistakes and have to do everything three times. For once, things went smoothly (as far as I know), so Deadly Trade didn't take as long as I'd feared. This left me time to post Carpathian Shadows on Mobipocket, update the listing for Finding Funboy on Amazon (and send a couple of review copies of that great mystery), and continue my editing on our next book, A Full English Problem. I'm up to page 102 (out of 500) so I've got a ways to go, but it's going pretty fast. I also managed to finish my ten pages today in Remove from Circulation--and wrote my first love scene in this story. Good to get those two into bed--they need it if this relationship is to have a chance.
I gave up on Real Vampires Live Large. It seemed to me that the point of the book is that fat vampires can be sexy. I don't have a problem with the message but I don't really get excited about it either and I wanted more story. So I put it down and picked up ATHENA FORCE: VENDETTA by Meredith Fletcher. It's my first Athena Force novel and I'm looking forward to it.
My mother flew in to visit us (from California) and the weather cooperated. It's in the 70s--perfect fall weather. I wonder how long that will last.
I'm going to make DEADLY TRADE by Michael Paulson the www.BooksForABuck.com book of the day. Hardboiled private eye Deacon Bishop is back in an adventure that mixes blackmail, blondes, the mob, and politicians--adding a dose of violence. Bishop is classic hardboiled--cynical, but with just a hint of something good buried far beneath his exterior. As I said, DEADLY TRADE is only $1, but only until mid-November when the price rises to $3.99. Learn more, read the excerpt, or buy the entire eNovel here: www.booksforabuck.com/mystery/mys_07/deadly_trade.html . (Available in HTML, Adobe Acrobat PDF, Mobipocket, Palm DOC, and Microsoft Reader formats.). Here's the cover (cover design by Karen Leabo):
