For National Novel Writing Month, I've decided to write a young adult fantasy. Today was the launch day and I got my ten pages written. When I did the computer word count, I saw I'd done 1849 words which puts me off the pace to write 50,000 words in November. I'll have to up the speed or write on weekends. Considering I have a bridge tournament later this week, maybe I'll have to do both.
As Karen and I walked to dinner (Norma's, our neighborhood diner), we talked about right/left brained. Karen is much more organized than me. She outlines, plans, and has this fantasy that if she can just find the right tool, she can write the perfect book. I, on the other hand, always think I am writing the perfect book--only to discover that I may have fallen a bit away from perfection somewhere. It's interesting to see two people who are alike in a lot of ways and who have a similar writing schedule, yet who approach writing from such different angles.
After writing my ten pages, I spend some time reviewing the first chapters of Remove from Circulation to get it ready for Golden Heart submission. I think I'm going to go through it one more time before I send it to Karen and really try to zing up each sentence. Judges in the Golden Heart are fussy and I can't rely on story-telling alone.
