My first drafts tend to be sparse (maybe all my writing is sparse--that's another issue). I tend to skimp on description, sometimes leaving the (potential) reader uncertain of where they stand in time and place. This is not really a good thing, which is one reason I use the method I do. Which is to begin each day of writing by reviewing the pages I wrote the previous day. Sometimes this results in cuts. In general, though, because the first draft is (overly) sparse, I end up adding pages. In general, before I get to the new day's writing, I've added a page--sometimes two. Which means I only have to generate 8 or 9 additional pages.
Tuesdays tend to be slightly weird days from a writing perspective since I head out at 9AM and don't get back home until about 9PM--with six hours of bridge instruction (and a bit more than an hour of driving) in between. But I do have a break and take my HP Jornada to write. Today I took along my Young Adult story that I just started (working title, Ronin) and did some rewriting. Was ten pages in when I started and now I'm up to twenty pages but here's the weird thing--I'm only up to page 12. Which means, I added ten pages in my first two pages of original content. At this rate, I won't have to add any new content--just flesh out the story for days.
My NaNoWriMo word count is now up to 3,709 words. (Goal is 50,000 for the month of November so I've got a long way to go).
I'm still reading 1634: THE BAVARIAN CRISIS. I also got a bit of submission reading done.
I'm going to make GOD OF TRAITORS by Zdravka Evtimova the www.BooksForABuck.com book of the day. An international police organization is stumped when a strange plague breaks out--apparently connected to beautiful dolls being manufactured. But as the lead investigator searches for clues, one thing becomes apparent--there's a traitor in the agency. Compelling near-future SF with a mystery and it's only $2.99. Learn more, read the excerpt, or buy the eNovel here: www.booksforabuck.com/sfpages/sf_04/god_traitors.html . (Available in HTML, Adobe PDF, Palm Reader/eReader and Microsoft Reader formats).
