rob: Good point, Amelia. The hours people spend reading are the greatest cost involved. Given that we sometimes get fooled and buy books we don't enjoy, it's nice to have a low cover price, too--if not for the successes, at least for the rejects.Rob

Wine tasting, new paperbacks, and my next project

I've finally pulled the trigger on two new paperbacks--SARAGOSA PRIME by Ken Ingle and CARPATHIAN SHADOWS #2 by Lea Schizas (editor). Both of these books took a couple of cycles, but I think the output is excellent so I'm pleased. In general, paperbacks don't sell as well for me as eBooks. I think this is partly because I work harder on the eBook side and partly because paper books cost more. Unfortunately, I've got to charge a moderate price for paper as the costs to me are significant. In contrast, eBooks are relatively cheap on a per copy basis although there's a fair amount of investment up-front.

I attended DARA (Dallas Area Romance Authors) today and got back my 2007 goals (I missed the 2007 end of year meeting). Guess what--the book titles were different but the basic goals were the same--write 4 books, edit projects whose books I'd already written first drafts, sell to a major publisher and enter more contests. I did a sucky job entering contests--I only entered the Golden Heart. I didn't even enter the Eppies, although I had several books that were eligible. I just didn't have the time/energy/whatever. However, I did write 4 books this year (the dragon book, the bridge werewolf book, the princess book and the the erotica), and did some significant editing.

Speaking of editing, I've decided to publish GOING POSTAL, the latest in my Texas Trailer Park mystery series (writing as Amy Eastlake) this month. Which means I've got a lot of polishing and editing to do to get this mystery ready. I love this story and I'm excited about publishing it.
