I haven't had much luck with Epic's annual contest for the best eBook of the year in the couple of years I entered. It's a tough contest partly because there are a lot of good entries and partly because BooksForABuck.com is a relatively small publisher. Although I'm sure all of the judges are doing their best, it would be hard not to be biased in favor of authors from their own publisher. Still, I encourage my authors to enter and pay up to half of their entry fees. It is, after all, the contest for best eBook of the year and I think BooksForABuck.com offers the best eBooks of the year every year (why else would I bother publishing them?). This year, for the first time in the three years BooksForABuck.com books have been entered, one of our books has made the finals--it's KORINNA by Kristina O'Donnelly. (Congratulations to Kristina and thanks to all of our authors who entered).
KORINNA is a powerful story of a woman's coming of age in the midst of horror--during the Mithriditic revolt against Rome during the dying days of the Roman Republic. KORINNA, the title character, must survive in the midst of Mithridites's genocide against Romans, Roman counterattacks, and must simultaneously unravel the mystery of her own origins. There's a bit of magic but Kristina decided (wisely, obviously) to enter KORINNA in the Historical category rather than paranormal.
I'm hugely excited for Kristina and for BooksForABuck.com. Kristina actually found me because she enjoyed my books and thought I might like hers--and I did.
It was pretty much a lazy day here at the beach. A cold front rolled in last night and Karen refused to leave the house. No walks on the beach. No bike rides to down. So, I spent my time editing. I got 100 pages read and polished in Remove from Circulation. Pretty much double the pace of yesterday and Tuesday. Not sure it's worth it though to be at the beach and not even walk on it.
I also got some reading done in GOT THE LOOK by James Grippando. I like Grippando's writing but something about his stories leaves me a bit flat. I'm hoping that this one will drive forward.
I don't think today's www.BooksForABuck.com book of the day will be any surprise. It's Eppie Finalist (and POW! Winner) KORINNA, a fascinating and powerful tale of a woman in the midst of danger during the late Roman Republic. KORINNA is only $3.99--a bargain.
